LAWRENCE
COTTAGE, an interesting thatched cottage dating back to the
late 1700s, IS IDEAL FOR A BREAK, with the sea 7
minutes away and quaint inland towns nearby. Not only that,
but the village it is in has a shop, open 7
days a week and a Post Office, so you needn't starve...or be
short of postcards.
This
beautiful cottage has recently been awarded THREE STARS from
Visit Britain!
Keith
Salmon, Visit Britain Assessor, comments:
"Lawrence Cottage offers comfortable self catering
accommodation commensurate to a Three Star rating, all be it
at the highest end of the grade."
If
you want to go out, a 7 minute drive takes you to Durdle
Door and Lulworth Cove beach - voted the most visited spot in
England. Even nearer, is
a huge NATURE RESERVE - with endless paths leading to
the river Frome and an interesting fauna, ideal for bird
spotters or (dog) walkers.
If
you want to stay in, the cottage has been recently completely
redecorated and the THEME ROOMS will give you plenty
to look at, summer or winter. The
good thing about Lawrence Cottage is that, even if it rains, THE
GARDEN IS USER FRIENDLY with its multi coloured gravels. It has
been professionally landscaped to the owners' design, full of
statues, with a strong Roman feeling.
On a sunny day, you could be mistaken for thinking that
you are in Italy, as it is a sun trap. Completely
secluded, this is a very peaceful garden if you wish to relax but
lively should you choose to have a barbecue in
the specially allocated corner.
The
vivid bedrooms themselves can provide colour therapy...one is
sunset colour, in the Lawrence of Arabia style, with a
picture of Lawrence of Arabia himself, which is a replica
of one in the Tate Gallery. The other bedroom, a
single one, has more than a French touch - with its Napoleonic
colours (green and pink) and French paintings. In the
third one, done in relaxing mauve, you could be sailing
away, would it not be for the interesting pictures on the
wall...
As
for the towns, Wareham is the nearest quaint one, a
few miles away, where there is a free museum. You can sit
in the cafe, The Anglebury, where Lawrence used to have his
favourite table. Wareham
is the door to the 'Purbecks' and from there you can go on to
visit Corfe Castle - where the ghost of William the
Conqueror awaits you...
Dorchester, with the Teddy Bears and County Museums,
is attractive, particularly on market day once a week. Three
miles away from the cottage, Wool is a large village with
doctor, dentist, vet, a railway station and a 12hr a day
supermarket. It has two
traditional pubs with good food and nearby, the Stokeford Inn,
has an Hungarian chef who cooks beautifully. Bovington, where
Lawrence was based, has huge attractions with the Tank Museum (a
free cash dispenser...) and, nearby, Monkey World. Not far
is WHERE LAWRENCE WAS BORN: CLOUD'S HILL, open 4 days a week,
and MORETON, where his grave is (and where a local cat
likes to lay...)
You
will be welcomed by a free mini HAMPER on arrival - which
includes a bottle of WINE and LOYALTY VOUCHERS to
be deducted from your future stays.
DOGS can STAY FREE and they are safe (the
garden is fully enclosed). PLENTY
TO ENJOY... SEE YOU
SOON............
